Re-signing the World Heritage Site
11th April 2008
Thanks to a grant from Advantage West Midlands, the signing in and around the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site is to be improved. Telford & Wrekin Council is working in partnership with Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust and Transforming Telford to deliver the project.
The aim of the scheme is to make it much easier for visitors to find their way around the World Heritage Site; the scheme will reduce the overall number of signs and many existing signs will be replaced.
Information about the scheme will be available at a “Drop-In” consultation event at Coalbrookdale Community Centre on Monday 7 April between 3pm and 7pm.
We would welcome your comments on the proposals before they are finalised. Drawings of the scheme will be available and there will be representatives of Telford & Wrekin Council and the scheme’s designers, Jacobs, available to explain the proposals and to listen to views and ideas.
Cllr Eric Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Regeneration commented,
“We are very grateful for the financial support that Advantage West Midlands has given to this important project and to the involvement of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums and Transforming Telford in developing the scheme. The Ironbridge Gorge is a heritage site of world significance and it is important that the appearance and condition of the area reflects that importance. The re-signing of the area will make a significant contribution towards achieving that and I hope that it will enhance the enjoyment of the area by both visitors and residents alike.”
If you need any further information about the consultation event you should contact Jonathan Lloyd at Telford & Wrekin Council on 01952 384275.
