Waste Awareness on the Agenda

Construction companies are losing millions through poor management of their raw materials and creation of waste an industry expert will warn the Shropshire Constructing Excellence Club at an event being held on 15th Jan at Priorslee Hall, Telford.

The club is working with the West Midlands Centre of Constructing Excellence (WMCCE) to educate the industry at this FREE event before the Site Waste Management Plans legislation comes into effect in April 2008.

Speaker Steve Davis, Contract Manager at Skanska said “The new regulations will initially be seen as a burden but really they are an opportunity to reduce costs whilst protecting the environment. A typical manufacturing company can achieve savings of around 1% of its turnover by implementing waste reduction techniques. And in construction this is likely to be significantly higher.”

Tim Whitehill, WMCCE said “Waste is a big issue in our industry and by holding events like this we hope to further raise awareness.”

Attendees can also learn more about the Chartered Institution Waste Management Waste Awareness Certificate in Construction, aimed at providing employees with the knowledge and information sources to help companies minimise waste and stay within the law.
The Shropshire Constructing Excellence Club is one of six Constructing Excellence Clubs set up to help drive efficiency, quality and innovation in the West Midlands region. They bring the benefits of ‘best practice’ at a practical, personal and local level.
