Tourism Tops In Telford and Shropshire Telford & Shropshire Marketing Partnership (TSMP) part of Transforming Telford held their Annual General Meeting last week.

Hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith, The event was held at Telford Golf Spa Hotel, were Tourism leaders from key attractions, venues, major hotels and guest house came together to review the year’s successes.  

Sarah Raper, chief executive of Transforming Telford said “Shropshire attracts over 11 million visitors per year, over 500,000 of which are business visitors - and that number is growing.  The sector is a key growth area for the town and is worth over £80 million to the local economy.”

Katie Foster, chair of TSMP, revealed that tourism had attracted investment of over £25m in the past 18 months with some major new developments to create new attractions and improve the visitor experience.

Eric Smith, BBC Radio Shropshire spoke at the event about tourism businesses being proactive in maximising the opportunity of using local radio to make people aware of what is happening in the area and raising the profile of Shropshire.

Shane Blackwell from Quality in Tourism, speaking at the AGM shared views for the future of tourism, with particular attention to ‘Visit Britain Assessments’.
